So, you want to retire and mediate?
This is an interesting post from the rather mysterious apo mechanes theos negotiation blog.
Once you have read it, come back here and tell me -
1) what are the tell tale signs of a mediator who has stopped bringing "enthusiasm and personal service and intensity to the table"? and
2) what mediators should do once they have "lost all of their other legal skills and contacts and have no where else to go, nothing else to do".

Egads. This guy makes me want to call a headhunter before I've "lost all of my other legal skills"
Chris, if you have a passion for ADR and dispute resolution, you won't lose your other legal skills or lose skills at all.
It is those who want to "retire" and then mediate who often seem to lose it and burn out.
No engaged mediator will find themselves needing to answer the question of "what mediators should do once they have [burned out and then] "lost all of their other legal skills and contacts and have no where else to go, nothing else to do"."
My post was about something you shouldn't do if you can't find yourself engaged by dispute resolution and are going toward it as a result of having lost passion rather than because of having a passion.
I'm not so much mysterious as sometimes too terse.
